Niffenegger’s art, while endearingly earnest, is often laughable. The story is a reader’s fantasy, and anyone who identifies as bookish will probably enjoy it. The idea of a bookmobile that comes only at night, and contains every book you’ve ever read, is an enticing one. I found the ending jarring, however, and the narrator’s ultimate fate seemed at odds with the tone throughout the rest of the book.
